PE in the EYFS

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) the aim of our PE lessons are to support children's physical development by helping them gain confidence and control in both gross and fine motor skills. PE in the EYFS encourages young children to move freely and energetically in a range of ways—such as running, jumping, balancing, and climbing—while also developing coordination and spatial awareness. Through structured and play-based activities, children learn to cooperate with others, follow instructions, and begin to understand the importance of physical activity for a healthy lifestyle.

PE in KS1 (years 1 and 2)

In KS1 (Year 1 and 2) PE lessons develop children's fundamental movement skills and increase their confidence and competence in a range of physical activities. They are encouraged to participate in simple team games and explore different ways of moving, both individually and with others. We also support children to understand the value of physical activity and promotes enjoyment, fair play, and cooperation.

Pe in Lower ks2 (years 3 and 4)

In Lower KS2 (Years 3 and 4) the children develop greater competence and confidence in a broad range of physical activities. They build on their fundamental skills by applying them in more complex and competitive situations, including team games with specific rules. Children also begin to develop flexibility, strength, control, and technique through activities such as athletics, dance, and gymnastics. We promote teamwork, communication, and fairness, while encouraging children to lead healthy, active lives and understand the value of regular physical activity.

PE in upper ks2 (years 5 and 6)

In Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6), our PE lessons aim to refine and extend children's physical skills, encouraging them to perform with increased accuracy, control, and fluency. Pupils develop their ability to use tactics and strategies in competitive games, as well as enhance their flexibility, strength, and endurance through a range of activities including dance, gymnastics, and athletics. PE also focuses on promoting leadership, teamwork, and fair play, while helping children understand the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle both now and in the future.
