Over the summer term, we will be learning about plants. The children have been able to plant their own bean, carry out an experiment to find out where plants grow best, and done observational drawings of flowers and labelled their parts. We have been learning about different parts of the plant life cycle, including seed dispersal, germination and pollination.

Our topic this term is Travel & Transport. The children have been learning about the different forms of transport and put them onto a timeline based on when they were invented. They have been able to discuss the impact of modern transport on society and why many advances were made. They even got to make their own Viking longboat!

The children have just completed their topic on Significant People, where they learnt about important figures through history. These included Malala, Florence Nightingale and Frida Kahlo. During this topic, the children produced artwork based on the focus people, wrote fact-files and made posters.

In maths, the children have been learning to make the same amount of money using different combinations of coins and notes. We've also been learning to tell the time on an analogue clock, focusing on o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to, with some children even learning to tell the time at 5 minute intervals!

This term we have been learning about Kenya. During this Geography topic, we have used globes, atlases and maps to locate Kenya, and even made maps of our own! We've learnt about the different animals you might see on a Kenyan safari, discovered the culture and traditions of the Maasai Mara tribe, and will soon be writing our own travel brochures persuading others to visit Kenya!

While learning to name and locate the seven continents and five oceans, we have looked closely at world maps and even made our own papier mache globes! This was so much fun!

Over the last few weeks we have been learning how to multiply and divide in maths. We used practical resources to make equal groups and share amounts into groups.

In English, we have been focusing on the story 'The Bear and the Piano' by David Litchfield. The story has given us so many amazing writing opportunities! Here are some photos of the story maps we made to help us when it came to retelling the story in our independent write.
